Dolce Invasione
Spring, 2007
Dimensions: installation
Materials: bamboo, paint, weeds
Dolce Invasione was installed for Art Healing Space IV: Reinterpretaitons in the garden of the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook University.
I chose two properties of bamboo in the garden: its beauty as an aesthetic object and its invasive property as a plant.
The installation featured bamboo (taken from fallen stalks) painted blue, sometimes mounted on actual roadside weed
to emphasize its growth qualities. The installation slowly 'grew' in time as I expanded it larger and larger to take
over the garden. The effect has proven difficult to document from any single camera angle.
