Art Healing Space - A ceremony was performed in the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook on April 14, 2005 for the victims of the Tsunami disaster. I had designed it, but it was realized mostly through the hard work of my students, and curated by Nobuho Nagasawa. It will be further documented here when I finish editing the video. The ceremony itself featured about one hundred lights submerged in the central fountain, representing the souls of those that were overcome by the wave. The lotus flower (my students made hundreds of them by hand using wax paper) represented the transformation of the suffering. Each flower stood for about 500 lives; the equivalent of 9/11 would have been just five such flowers.

Below are photos of the Lights; one depicts them at night, submerged in the fountain; the other photos are of the next day. The lights had become spent but the sunlight fell beautifully on the remainder of the 400+ lotus flowers.
